Partner With Us

Qualified charitable distributions, also known as QCDs, allow eligible individuals to donate directly from an IRA to a qualified charity.

For some donors, a QCD may be an attractive giving option because it can count toward a required minimum distribution without the distribution being included in taxable income.

Eligibility

A qualified charitable distribution may generally be made:

  • When the IRA holder is age 70½ or older
  • Directly from the IRA custodian or trustee to a qualified charity
  • From an eligible IRA
  • To a qualified charity, such as Habitat for Humanity of Boone County

Limitations

Restrictions may include:

  • Annual limits set by current IRS rules
  • The distribution must be transferred directly to the charity
  • The transfer must be completed by the applicable tax-year deadline
  • Not all charitable organizations qualify
  • Not all retirement accounts qualify

Potential Benefits

A QCD may help some donors:

  • Make a charitable gift directly from IRA assets
  • Satisfy required minimum distributions
